Michael Carrick walked into the Manchester United job knowing exactly what the club demands, but just a few weeks into the new season, the pressure around Old Trafford has started to build rapidly.
And suddenly, every result feels heavier. 😬
United’s opening weeks have been anything but smooth. A defeat to Manchester City was followed by a dramatic 3-2 Carabao Cup loss to Brighton, despite United racing into a 2-0 lead inside the opening 10 minutes. The defeat sent them out of the competition at the third-round stage for the second consecutive season.
Then came Fulham.
United escaped Craven Cottage with a 1-1 draw after Matheus Cunha scored a late, deflected equaliser in the 89th minute. The result left United with five points from their first five Premier League matches.

But Carrick isn’t running away from the pressure.
Before the Fulham game, he dismissed suggestions that his position was already under threat, arguing that it would be premature to start discussing his future after only a handful of disappointing results.
And after the draw, Carrick insisted he saw positives in United’s response.
He pointed to the team’s reaction after conceding the own goal and said the players continued pushing until they eventually found an equaliser.
But football at Manchester United has never been judged simply by whether a team fights back late in a match. 😮💨
The expectation is enormous.
United supporters want intensity. They want control. They want a team that imposes itself on opponents rather than repeatedly finding itself in survival mode.
And right now, Carrick is being asked to find those answers quickly.
The irony is that Carrick knows the club better than most. He spent years at Old Trafford as a player and returned to the club’s coaching setup before eventually taking charge. He knows the standards, the scrutiny and the emotional weight attached to that badge.
