Andreas Christensen has suffered another injury setback, with Barcelona confirming that the Danish defender has sustained a muscle injury to the rectus femoris of his left quadriceps. The club says he will be unavailable for the coming weeks, with his recovery determining when he can return.
The injury occurred during Barcelona’s 3–1 victory over Sevilla, forcing Christensen to leave the pitch in the second half. He was visibly devastated after being substituted, with images showing just how difficult the moment was for the defender.
💔 The timing is particularly frustrating because Christensen had started to become an important option for Hansi Flick again. The 30-year-old had made six appearances this season, starting four matches, and had already contributed one assist across 402 minutes.
🚨 And this comes after a difficult period with injuries. Christensen missed a large portion of last season after suffering a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, eventually returning after 158 days out.
Now Barcelona must manage another defensive absence while Christensen focuses on rehabilitation. The club has not announced an exact return date, although reports have suggested that the quadriceps problem could keep him out for several weeks.
🔵🔴 For Flick, it means another defensive selection headache. Barcelona have several options to cover the position, including Eric García, Jules Koundé and Gerard Martín, but Christensen’s absence removes another experienced option from the squad.
🙏❤️ Get well soon, Andreas. Barça fans will be hoping this setback is only temporary.
