Lamine Yamal clearly hasn’t forgotten that heartbreaking night in Milan. More than a year after Barcelona’s dramatic Champions League semi-final defeat to Inter, the young Barça star has revisited the match — and his confidence remains sky-high. 👀🔥
Barcelona had looked destined for the Champions League final after fighting back from 2-0 down to lead 3-2 in the second leg. But Inter produced a stunning late response, with Francesco Acerbi equalising deep into stoppage time before Davide Frattesi scored in extra time to complete a 4-3 victory, sending Inter through 7-6 on aggregate.
Yamal, however, believes the story would be completely different if the two teams played that game again today.
🗣️ “If we played that game again with Inter at this moment, I don’t think we’d concede the equaliser, in no way,” Yamal said in an interview with L’Équipe.
And there is some context behind his confidence.
Barça had numerous opportunities across the two legs, while Yamal himself came agonisingly close several times. In Milan, Yann Sommer produced outstanding saves to deny him, including two late efforts that could have changed the outcome.
The first leg in Barcelona had also ended 3-3, with Yamal producing one of the standout moments of the tie by cutting inside and curling a spectacular effort beyond Sommer. He later hit the woodwork as Barça continued pushing for a winner.
But Yamal’s reflection wasn’t simply about blaming Inter or dismissing their victory. He pointed toward the experience gap within Barcelona’s young squad, explaining that players make different decisions as they gain experience.
That makes his message even more interesting. 👀
