Is it just me, or does Jérémy Jacquet already make you forget about Ibrahima Konaté? 👀🔥
When Liverpool brought in the young French centre-back from Rennes, the move was naturally viewed as part of the post-Konaté rebuild. But just weeks into his Anfield career, Jacquet is doing much more than simply filling a vacant spot. He is making the position his own. 🇫🇷🔴
The 21-year-old has quickly established himself alongside Virgil van Dijk, showing remarkable composure, aggression and confidence for a defender still so early in his Premier League career. Liverpool paid around £60 million for his services, and the early performances are beginning to explain exactly why the club were willing to make such a significant investment.
And now the hype has gone international. 🌍🔥
Jacquet recently made his senior France debut and followed it up with another impressive performance against Italy. He completed 79 of 80 passes, won four duels, made two clearances and two recoveries, while earning strong praise from France boss Zinedine Zidane.
That is some serious statement-making from a defender who is only just beginning his international journey. 😮💨🇫🇷
What makes the comparison with Konaté even more interesting is that Jacquet’s profile has previously been statistically compared closely with Konaté’s. Opta Analyst highlighted his aerial ability, anticipation and front-foot defending, while noting that he has experience playing on both sides of a centre-back pairing.
Now Liverpool supporters are getting to see those qualities at Anfield for themselves. 👀
Konaté gave Liverpool plenty of memorable moments, but Jacquet isn’t arriving with the intention of being remembered as simply “the guy who replaced Konaté.” He’s building his own identity, and if this start is anything to go by, the Reds may have uncovered a defender capable of becoming a major figure at Anfield for years to come. 🚀🔴
And the scary part? He’s only getting started. 😭🔥
Could Jacquet actually become the defender who makes Liverpool fans stop talking about Konaté altogether? 👀🧱
