Liverpool have been handed a huge selection dilemma ahead of the blockbuster Premier League clash with Manchester City at Anfield, with Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo both returning from international duty with injuries. 😰
Isak was withdrawn from Sweden duty after suffering a minor thigh problem. The issue was described as relatively small, and the striker is still being assessed as Liverpool desperately hope he can recover in time for the massive showdown. 🇸🇪➡️🔴
And there is encouraging news for the Reds because Isak’s problem has not been described as a major injury. That means there remains a genuine possibility that Liverpool’s record signing could be available if he responds well to treatment and training. 💪🔥
Gakpo’s situation is a little more complicated. The Dutch forward picked up an ankle injury against Serbia and was forced to leave the Netherlands camp early. Liverpool are still waiting for a clearer assessment before determining how long he could be unavailable. 🇳🇱😟
Manager Andoni Iraola confirmed that both players are currently injured but admitted Liverpool must wait and see whether either can recover in time to face City.
The timing could hardly be more dramatic. Liverpool return to Premier League action against Manchester City at Anfield on October 11, with both teams entering a crucial period of the season. 🔥🏟️
There is also concern surrounding Jérémy Jacquet, who has reportedly suffered a hamstring strain, adding another headache to Liverpool’s defensive preparations.
But Liverpool supporters have reasons to remain hopeful. With Giovanni Leoni and Federico Chiesa among the players progressing toward returns, the squad could gradually become stronger as the brutal fixture schedule approaches. 🔴💪
Now everything depends on the final medical checks and training sessions. 👀
Will Isak make the Manchester City clash? 🤔🔥
Can Gakpo recover quickly enough? 😳
And who should Iraola start if both attacking stars miss out? 👇🔴
