Football fans, let’s have an honest conversation! 🗣️🔥
Some people are already writing off Virgil van Dijk, but the Liverpool captain continues to show that class, experience and football intelligence never go out of fashion! ❤️🔥🔴
At 35 years old, Van Dijk is still delivering impressive performances for both Liverpool and the Netherlands. While younger defenders are trying to establish themselves at the highest level, the Dutch giant continues to demonstrate why he remains one of the most respected centre-backs in world football! 🧱🇳🇱
📊 THE STATISTICS ARE SPEAKING! 🤯📈
According to FotMob’s 2026/27 statistics, Van Dijk has an average Premier League rating of approximately 7.52 after five league appearances. He has started every league game and played all 450 minutes! 👏🔥
But that’s not all! His recent performances for the Netherlands have also been impressive, including an 8.1 rating against Greece and a 7.6 against Serbia, according to FotMob. 💪🇳🇱
Those numbers tell a story of remarkable consistency from a defender who has already achieved so much in his career.
🧠 WHY VAN DIJK IS STILL DIFFERENT
It’s not just about statistics. Van Dijk brings qualities that are difficult to replace.
✅ Defensive intelligence: He reads danger early and positions himself to stop attacks before they become serious threats.
✅ Aerial dominance: His height, strength and timing make him a formidable opponent in aerial duels.
✅ Leadership: He organises the defensive line and helps the players around him maintain their discipline.
✅ Composure under pressure: Whether Liverpool are defending a narrow lead or facing an aggressive attack, his experience remains invaluable.
✅ Big-game mentality: His presence and experience make him a defender opponents must take seriously. 🥶🔒
At his best, Van Dijk doesn’t need to make a spectacular sliding tackle every five minutes to prove his quality. Sometimes, his positioning alone makes an attacker change direction! 😭🔥
👀 AND HERE IS THE BIG QUESTION!
At 35, can Van Dijk still compete with the best centre-backs in the world? His current performances suggest that age has certainly not erased his defensive quality.
Of course, no player remains at their peak forever, and even a legendary defender has areas of his game that can change with age. But dismissing Van Dijk simply because he is getting older would be a huge mistake! 💯
Liverpool supporters know exactly what they have in their captain. The man has earned his reputation through years of commanding performances, consistency and leadership at the highest level. 🔴👑
MY TAKE: IF THIS IS WHAT A FINISHED VAN DIJK LOOKS LIKE, SOME DEFENDERS IN THEIR PRIME HAVE SERIOUS QUESTIONS TO ANSWER! 😂🔥
