Manchester United could be preparing for a major defensive rebuild ahead of next summer, with Alessandro Bastoni and Micky van de Ven emerging as two exciting names for the club to consider! 👀🔥
With fresh uncertainty surrounding Lisandro Martínez’s future and questions about Harry Maguire’s long-term contract situation, United may need to strengthen their centre-back options to build a defence capable of competing for major trophies.
According to recent reports, United have been linked with Van de Ven, although no deal has been confirmed. Bastoni also represents an attractive option, but his potential availability remains uncertain.
🇮🇹 ALESSANDRO BASTONI: THE DEFENSIVE GENERAL! 💎🔥
Bastoni has established himself as a top-class defender with Inter Milan, earning recognition for his composure, tactical intelligence and ability to play out from the back.
The Italian international is particularly effective in possession, capable of breaking opposition lines with accurate passes and helping his team control games from defence.
His reading of the game and experience at the highest level could make him an exciting addition to Manchester United.
Imagine Bastoni partnering Leny Yoro at Old Trafford! 😳🔥 United could have a defender who brings composure, experience and excellent distribution to the backline.
However, convincing Inter to part with one of their important defenders could prove difficult, and the financial cost would be a major consideration.
🇳🇱 MICKY VAN DE VEN: THE SPEED MACHINE! ⚡💨
Van de Ven offers a different defensive profile.
The Tottenham Hotspur defender is renowned for his extraordinary recovery speed, physical strength and ability to cover large spaces behind the defensive line.
For a Manchester United team that wants to defend aggressively and press opponents higher up the pitch, his pace could be particularly valuable.
His speed allows him to recover when attackers get behind the defence, while his ability to carry the ball forward can help United transition quickly from defence to attack.
Reports have linked him with United, but there is a significant obstacle: Van de Ven signed a new long-term contract with Tottenham in August 2026, and recent reporting suggests he is content to remain at the club.
That means securing his signature could be extremely difficult, even if United decide to make him a priority.
🔴 BASTONI OR VAN DE VEN: WHO FITS UNITED BETTER?
Bastoni offers composure, passing ability and experience in a defence built around possession. Van de Ven brings exceptional recovery pace, athleticism and the ability to defend large spaces.
Both could strengthen United, but the right choice would depend on the manager’s tactical system, the transfer fee and the availability of each player.
United must also consider their existing defensive options, including Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and the uncertain futures of Martínez and Maguire.
One thing is clear: if United want to challenge for the biggest trophies again, building a reliable and balanced defence will be an important part of the process. 💯🔴
