Dominik Szoboszlai is one of those footballers who can change the entire rhythm of a game with his energy, intelligence, and incredible technical ability. Whether he is pressing opponents, carrying the ball forward, or unleashing a thunderous shot from distance, the Hungarian midfielder has the tools to make life miserable for any defence. 💥
But there is one question Liverpool fans cannot stop debating: What is Szoboszlai’s BEST position?
Is he a No. 10? A box-to-box midfielder? Or should Liverpool continue using him in different roles depending on the opponent?
The answer might be even more interesting than you think! 👀
💣 THE BOX-TO-BOX NO. 8: THE ROLE THAT UNLOCKS SZOBOSZLAI’S SUPERPOWERS!
Szoboszlai has already made it clear that he loves operating between the No. 8 and No. 10 positions, with the box-to-box role being his personal favourite. And honestly, it makes perfect sense! 🔥
He wants to receive the ball from the defenders, dictate the tempo with his passing, drive forward, arrive inside the penalty area, and unleash those spectacular long-range shots.
That is exactly what makes him such a dangerous midfielder. He is not just a player who waits for the ball to come to him. He wants to be involved in every phase of the game! TNT Sports +1
🎯 THE NO. 10 ROLE: WHERE HIS CREATIVITY BECOMES DEADLY!
There is also a strong argument for playing Szoboszlai as a No. 10.
When he operates behind the striker, he can use his vision, technical quality, and ability to deliver dangerous passes to unlock stubborn defences.
He can combine with the forwards, create chances, and threaten the goalkeeper from distance.
Liverpool have already seen what he can bring to an attacking midfield role. The problem is that his versatility gives the manager so many options that finding his ideal position becomes a tactical puzzle. The Independent +1
🚨 WHY LIVERPOOL MUST STOP WASTING HIS ATTACKING POTENTIAL!
Szoboszlai has been used in several positions, including central midfield, attacking midfield, defensive midfield, right wing, and even right-back.
That versatility is a blessing, but it can also become a curse.
When a player is capable of doing almost everything, there is always a temptation to move him around whenever the team faces a problem.
But Liverpool must be careful.
A player with Szoboszlai’s attacking instincts should not spend too much time sitting deep and restricting his ability to influence the game in the final third.
Even Szoboszlai has admitted that right wing is the position he likes least, while his preferred role is the box-to-box No. 8. This Is Anfield +1
🔥 THE PERFECT LIVERPOOL MIDFIELD COMBINATION?
Imagine a Liverpool midfield built around three complementary profiles:
- Ryan Gravenberch: The deeper midfielder who provides ball progression and defensive cover.
- Alexis Mac Allister: The intelligent playmaker who controls possession and links the midfield.
- Dominik Szoboszlai: The energetic No. 8 who presses, attacks space, creates chances, and arrives in the box.
That combination could give Liverpool the perfect balance between control, creativity, and intensity.
Szoboszlai himself has praised playing alongside Mac Allister and Gravenberch, highlighting their understanding and quality. TNT Sports +1
🗣️ THE FINAL VERDICT: SZOBOSZLAI IS A NO. 8 WITH THE SOUL OF A NO. 10!
For me, the best version of Dominik Szoboszlai is a box-to-box midfielder with the freedom to attack.
He has the stamina to press, the technique to dictate play, the vision to create, and the shooting ability to score spectacular goals.
Liverpool should build their midfield around his strengths rather than constantly moving him into positions that limit his influence.
He can play as a No. 10 when the tactical situation demands it, but his natural game is about moving between the defensive and attacking phases of football.
And when he is allowed to do that, he becomes a nightmare for opponents. 🔴💥
Liverpool fans, let’s settle this debate! 👀
Would you rather see Szoboszlai playing as a box-to-box No. 8 or as the attacking No. 10 behind the striker?
