Arsenal’s defensive department could be heading towards an interesting situation, with the competition for starting places becoming increasingly intense.
With Ezri Konsa and Gabriel Magalhães reportedly developing a formidable partnership at the heart of the defence, questions are beginning to emerge about William Saliba’s position in the starting XI.
Let’s be honest, Gooners! Saliba has established himself as one of Arsenal’s most important defenders, but reputation alone cannot guarantee anybody a starting place.
If Konsa and Gabriel continue delivering consistent performances, winning their individual battles, dominating aerial duels and keeping opposition attackers quiet, Mikel Arteta will have a difficult decision to make.
Saliba remains an exceptional defender, but football is all about competition. Nobody should be guaranteed a place regardless of their name or reputation.
This could create a fascinating selection dilemma for Arteta, especially if Arsenal’s defensive partnership continues producing the results the manager wants.
👀 Could we be witnessing the beginning of a new defensive era at Arsenal, or will Saliba eventually reclaim his place alongside Gabriel?
🔥 KONSA + GABRIEL OR SALIBA + GABRIEL?
Gooners, no sitting on the fence! Who would you trust as Arsenal’s first-choice centre-back partnership?
