Arsenal have reportedly withdrawn their interest in highly-rated Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho after conducting a thorough assessment of the player’s situation and potential.
Initially, the Gunners were strongly linked with a move for the £50 million-rated Argentine international, who has been unsettled at Old Trafford under new manager Ruben Amorim. Garnacho’s frustration reached boiling point last season when he was benched for the Europa League final against Tottenham. Following that disappointment, Amorim reportedly informed him he was free to seek a new club.
Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed on July 4 that Garnacho, alongside four other United players, had formally requested to leave. With the summer transfer window closing on September 1, both the club and the player face a race against time to resolve his future.
Despite his strong numbers—26 goals and 22 assists in 144 appearances for United—Arsenal decided against pursuing him after their scouting and internal reviews. Instead, manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta secured Chelsea’s Noni Madueke and remain keen on Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace.
Arsenal’s rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, also showed interest in Garnacho, but their focus has shifted to negotiations with Manchester City for Savinho. Meanwhile, his former club Atlético Madrid explored the possibility of re-signing him but opted to secure Spain international Álex Baena from Villarreal instead.
This leaves Chelsea as the most likely destination. According to TeamTalk, the Blues have already agreed personal terms with Garnacho, who has expressed a clear preference to move to Stamford Bridge. While United are demanding £50m (€58m, $67.7m), Chelsea are confident they can bring that down to around £35m (€40.6m, $47.4m).
Former United defender John O’Kane, however, has urged the Red Devils not to lower their asking price, pointing to the £35m fee Nottingham Forest recently paid for Manchester City’s James McAtee, a less experienced player.
“McAtee just went for £35m and hasn’t achieved anything close to Garnacho. United must stand firm—£50m plus add-ons at minimum,” O’Kane wrote on X.
For now, Arsenal have stepped aside, Tottenham are focused elsewhere, Atlético have moved on, and Chelsea appear ready to swoop. With just days left in the window, Garnacho’s future hangs in the balance, but all signs point towards a dramatic Stamford Bridge switch
