Alexander Isak’s Reaction Revealed

Alexander Isak’s true feelings about Liverpool signing Hugo Ekitike before completing his own move to Anfield have now been uncovered.

The Swedish striker dominated headlines all summer and eventually sealed a British record transfer on deadline day, after making it clear he would no longer play for Newcastle United.

Liverpool’s Move for Ekitike

Earlier in the window, Newcastle had explored replacing Isak with Hugo Ekitike, then at Eintracht Frankfurt, before sanctioning his sale. But Liverpool hijacked that plan, securing the French forward while still negotiating for Isak.

According to The Athletic, Newcastle viewed Liverpool’s swoop for Ekitike as a calculated show of strength—targeting both strikers to ensure they didn’t miss out on Isak. Liverpool, however, maintained that they had been in talks with Ekitike since January and simply acted first.

Isak’s Changing Mood

Those close to Isak say his attitude noticeably shifted when he learned Ekitike was joining Liverpool. While he had travelled with Newcastle for pre-season training in Austria, soon after the Ekitike deal he reported a “minor injury” that ruled him out of the Asia tour. In hindsight, many believe that was the first public sign of his desire to leave.

The Breaking Point

The tension escalated as Isak pushed harder for a transfer. He even released a statement accusing Newcastle of breaking promises, following his absence from the PFA awards ceremony.

Manager Eddie Howe publicly urged him to reintegrate but, behind the scenes, acknowledged that forcing him to stay would damage squad harmony. By the time Howe admitted in a press conference that the situation had become a “lose-lose,” Newcastle’s stance had weakened—paving the way for Liverpool to finally get their man.
