Alex Iwobi, an Arsenal academy graduate, has carved out a successful career in the Premier League despite a challenging departure from his boyhood club. Over the past six years, the versatile Nigerian international has showcased his talents at both Everton and Fulham, proving his resilience and adaptability at the top level.
Iwobi, now a key figure under Marco Silva at Fulham, is set to face his former club Everton this weekend—a fixture he approaches with determination. Reflecting on his time at Everton, he shared, “In life, sometimes you have to move on. I have some good memories of Goodison Park, but now I am looking to create new memories playing against them, and hopefully, we can get a win. It always feels special to face a former team, but I try to treat all opponents the same way.”
The 29-year-old also opened up about his exit from Arsenal. Speaking on The Inside Scoop podcast, Iwobi revealed that he felt pushed out just before the transfer deadline. “Arsenal had just signed Pepe, and they asked if I still wanted to stay. I said I was fine, but it became clear they wanted me gone,” he explained. “It was the easiest and biggest fee, so I understood they were looking to move me on.”
Despite the abrupt departure, Iwobi maintains no ill feelings toward Arsenal. “My time there shaped who I am today. I owe my career to Arsenal, and the club will always hold a special place in my heart. But I have no regrets in leaving,” he said.
