Liverpool’s chaotic 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at Anfield produced goals, controversy, a debatable penalty and plenty of drama. But somehow, one bizarre moment involving Virgil van Dijk and James McAtee has stolen the spotlight online. 😭👀
Footage circulating on social media appears to show Van Dijk picking his nose before seemingly wiping his hand on McAtee during the tense build-up to Forest’s penalty. 🤢💀
Whether it was exactly what fans think they saw or simply a very unfortunate camera angle, the clip has sent supporters into meltdown. 😂 The timing made it even more ridiculous because the match was already boiling over.
Forest had just taken a quick throw-in during a period of confusion around Liverpool’s attempted substitutions. Neco Williams was subsequently brought down inside the box by Alisson, with the referee awarding a penalty. Morgan Gibbs-White stepped up and converted to put Forest 2-1 ahead.
And McAtee? He was actually one of Forest’s brightest performers, earning strong praise for his display as Forest repeatedly caused Liverpool problems.
Liverpool eventually rescued a point when Víctor Muñoz smashed home an 82nd-minute equaliser, cancelling out Gibbs-White’s penalty and making it 2-2.
But forget the goals for a second… 😂
Fans online are now asking the only question that seems to matter:
DID VIRGIL VAN DIJK REALLY JUST DO THAT TO McATEE? 🤢😭
Footballers have survived tackles, VAR controversies and heated confrontations, but apparently nobody prepared McAtee for this particular defensive tactic. 💀😂
If that footage is what it appears to be, McAtee deserves a serious apology… and probably a shower. 😭🚿
