Barcelona have suddenly found themselves at the centre of one of Manchester United’s biggest academy stories, with teenage sensation JJ Gabriel now at the heart of an increasingly dramatic transfer situation. 👀

The 15-year-old United wonderkid has asked to leave the club and requested that his registration be cancelled, despite having been regarded as one of the brightest talents to emerge from Carrington. Gabriel has attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Barcelona and Real Madrid among those holding talks over his future.

And things have escalated quickly. 😱

Reports say Gabriel and his family are currently in Barcelona, where discussions with the Catalan giants have been taking place. Real Madrid are also involved, while Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have reportedly shown interest in the teenager.

For United, this is a huge concern because Gabriel’s reputation inside the academy has been extraordinary.

Last season, he scored 26 goals in 29 youth appearances, while also becoming the youngest recipient of Manchester United’s Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award. His performances were so impressive that he was being considered for first-team involvement at just 15.

He even had a potential piece of history within touching distance.

Gabriel was expected to be involved around United’s first team for the Carabao Cup, which could have made him the club’s youngest-ever senior player. Instead, his sudden decision to seek an exit has completely changed the story.

And Barcelona clearly see something special.

The Catalan club have built their identity around developing young players, with La Masia producing generations of stars. Bringing Gabriel into that environment would give the teenager another pathway toward elite-level football, although any move involving a player under 18 remains subject to FIFA regulations.

There is another fascinating twist.

Gabriel reportedly has an Irish passport, which could potentially make a move to an EU club more straightforward once the relevant age and regulatory requirements are satisfied. He turns 16 on October 6, making the coming weeks particularly significant for his future.

United are still trying to convince him to stay, and the club maintains that his registration remains in place. But with Barcelona and Real Madrid now actively involved, the situation has become increasingly difficult for the Red Devils to control.
