Fermín López has opened up about the mentality that helped him fight his way into Barcelona’s first team, and he sees an interesting connection with legendary midfielder Luka Modrić. 🔥🔵🔴
The Barcelona midfielder admitted that his journey was never straightforward. After spending the 2022/23 season on loan at Linares, Fermín was expected to leave Barcelona again, but his performances during pre-season changed everything. He eventually became part of the first team and has continued to establish himself at the highest level.
When asked about his development, Fermín explained that he always felt he had talent, but what separated him was the fact that he had to work harder than those around him.
He was then reminded of Modrić’s own story, particularly how the Croatian midfielder was doubted physically early in his career but responded by working harder and refusing to give up.
Fermín agreed with the comparison. ❤️🔥
He described Modrić as a “unique” and “incredible” player, saying that his own mentality was similar: be disciplined, remain patient during difficult moments, keep working and continue fighting.
That mentality has clearly become a major part of Fermín’s identity. He has already won major honours with Barcelona and Spain, while his latest performances have shown just how important he can be in midfield and attack.
And after missing Spain’s 2026 World Cup through injury, Fermín has now returned to the national team and said that the difficult summer is behind him. He described being back with Spain as something that made him extremely happy. 🇪🇸🔥
From being a player who was expected to leave Barcelona after his loan spell… to becoming an important first-team midfielder, Fermín’s story is increasingly about patience, hard work and refusing to disappear when the road gets difficult. 💪🔵🔴
And perhaps that is exactly why the Modrić comparison means so much to him. ⚽✨
