Manchester United could have another exciting young attacking talent waiting to explode onto the first-team scene, with Tynan Thompson reportedly attracting plenty of attention inside the club.
The 18-year-old winger joined United from Tottenham this summer after an impressive campaign at youth level. Thompson scored 13 goals and provided six assists across Spurs’ Under-18 and Under-21 teams last season, including seven goals in seven UEFA Youth League matches. (Manchester United)
What has reportedly caught the eye is Thompson’s unique attacking style. His ability to operate from the left, use both feet, take on defenders and create chances gives him the kind of unpredictability that modern wide attackers need.
There are now claims that some Manchester United recruitment staff see similarities between Thompson’s profile and Michael Olise, particularly in the youngster’s technical ability, creativity and one-on-one threat.
That comparison is certainly a huge compliment, but Thompson still has plenty of development ahead of him. He is currently part of United’s Under-21 setup, although his performances could eventually earn him opportunities around Michael Carrick’s senior squad.
Carrick has already shown a willingness to give young players a pathway into the first team. Opta noted that academy players received significantly more minutes under Carrick during the latter part of last season, while the manager has also spoken about wanting United to play with speed, energy, unpredictability and attacking intent. Thompson is also officially listed among United’s Under-21 forwards for the 2026/27 season, meaning the door to senior football is very much there if he continues progressing. (Manchester United)
Could Manchester United have discovered their own future creative superstar?
The Olise comparisons are already creating excitement, but now Thompson has to turn the hype into performances. If he keeps producing, Carrick may soon have a very interesting decision to make.
