Manchester United fans, it’s time for a serious throwback debate! 😮💨🔴
José Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjær built very different Manchester United teams, with each era having its own identity, big personalities and unforgettable moments.
🇵🇹 MOURINHO’S UNITED
🧤 David De Gea
🛡️ Valencia • Smalling • Lindelöf • Young
⚙️ Matic • Pogba
🎨 Mata • Lingard • Alexis Sánchez
🎯 Lukaku
Mourinho’s side had experience, physicality and players capable of changing games individually. His 2018 team against Watford, for example, featured De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Lindelöf, Young, Matic, Pogba, Lingard, Alexis and Lukaku.
💥 Pogba’s creativity
🧱 Matic’s physical presence
⚡ Lingard’s movement
🎯 Lukaku’s power
🎨 Mata’s technique
🧤 De Gea at his peak
Then came Ole’s revolution…
🇳🇴 SOLSKJÆR’S UNITED
🧤 David De Gea
🛡️ Wan-Bissaka • Lindelöf • Maguire • Shaw
⚙️ Fred • McTominay
🔥 Rashford • Bruno Fernandes • Martial
🎯 Cavani
Ole’s strongest teams brought a different kind of energy. The arrival of Bruno Fernandes transformed the attack, while Rashford, Martial and later Cavani gave United pace, movement and goals.
One of Ole’s memorable Champions League lineups against PSG featured De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Tuanzebe, Lindelöf, Shaw, Telles, Fred, McTominay, Rashford, Bruno and Martial.
And when Ole’s team clicked, the attack could be frightening. Against Roma in 2021, United started with Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Maguire, Shaw, Fred, Van de Beek, Greenwood, Bruno, Pogba and Cavani.
🔥 MOURINHO HAD THE POWER.
⚡ OLE HAD THE PACE.
🎨 MOURINHO HAD POGBA.
🪄 OLE HAD BRUNO.
🎯 MOURINHO HAD LUKAKU.
🚀 OLE HAD RASHFORD, MARTIAL & CAVANI.
And then there’s the biggest question…
👀 Which midfield would you take?
Matic + Pogba had incredible technical quality and physical presence.
Fred + McTominay offered intensity and defensive work.
But Bruno Fernandes gave Ole’s attack a creative spark that completely changed United’s attacking threat.
The debate becomes even more interesting when you consider the players Ole could bring off the bench. Pogba, Rashford, Martial and Greenwood were among the attacking options available during parts of his reign.
Two different managers.
Two different philosophies.
Two completely different United identities. 🔴
🔥 MOURINHO’S XI OR OLE’S XI?
Which starting lineup would you trust in a massive Manchester derby or Champions League night? 👀🏆
