Real Madrid could be preparing another major defensive signing, with Arsenal’s highly rated defender Riccardo Calafiori reportedly emerging as a transfer target for Los Blancos.
According to FourFourTwo, Real Madrid have already made an enquiry about the Italian international’s availability as they explore potential options to strengthen their defensive department.
Calafiori has impressed with his performances for Arsenal this season, demonstrating his quality at both ends of the pitch. His ability to contribute goals and assists while maintaining defensive discipline has made him an important part of Arsenal’s setup.
🔥 WHY DOES MOURINHO WANT HIM?
José Mourinho reportedly considers Calafiori a dream signing because of his incredible versatility. The 24-year-old can operate as a left-back or centre-back, giving his manager multiple tactical options.
His technical ability, physical presence, composure in possession and willingness to contribute offensively make him an attractive option for Real Madrid.
💰 HOWEVER, ARSENAL HAVE OTHER PLANS!
The Gunners are reportedly preparing to discuss a contract extension with Calafiori, whose current agreement runs until 2029.
Arsenal are unlikely to welcome losing such an important defensive option, particularly when he has been delivering impressive performances.
There are also questions surrounding his injury history, meaning Real Madrid would need to carefully consider the risks before making a serious financial commitment.
👀 Nevertheless, Madrid’s reported interest could create an interesting situation for Arsenal. Will they secure Calafiori’s long-term future, or could Florentino Pérez eventually tempt the Italian away from the Emirates?
🤍 MADRID WANT HIM. ARSENAL WANT TO KEEP HIM. THIS COULD GET INTERESTING!
