Konate Contract Extension Now Liverpool’s Top Focus Amid Transfer Interest

Liverpool have prioritized securing a new contract for Ibrahima Konate as the summer transfer window approaches, sources told Football Insider.

On the Inside Track podcast, senior reporter Pete Oโ€™Rourke revealed that new sporting director Richard Hughes is pushing hard to lock down a fresh deal for the 25-year-old defender. Konateโ€™s current contract expires in June 2026, and despite ongoing talks, little progress has been made, increasing the risk of losing him for free.

Recent contract renewals for key players Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have added momentum to negotiations. Still, with Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid reportedly interested, Liverpool may need to act fast to prevent Konateโ€™s departure.

The club is determined to avoid repeating the uncertainty seen with Salah and Van Dijk, especially after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s decision to join Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are also eyeing a new right-back, anticipating Alexander-Arnoldโ€™s exit. Conor Bradley is being considered as a replacement, but concerns over his injury history might lead the club to explore other permanent options. Bradley is expected to get a chance to prove himself before the season ends.
