Marcus Rashford on Lamine Yamal, Young Talent, and the Future of Football
When asked about the Ballon d’Or, Marcus Rashford didn’t hesitate. He praised several young stars, naming Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Dembélé as deserving candidates. “If it were up to me, I’d give it to any of them,” he said. “They’ve all had fantastic seasons and shown maturity beyond their years. Picking just one is tough because they’ve all made a significant impact.”
Speaking about the most talented player he’s ever shared the pitch with, Rashford was quick to single out Lamine Yamal. “For his age, Lamine is extraordinary. I haven’t seen anyone have the influence on a game like he does, maybe except Ronaldo Nazario, ‘El Fenómeno.’ His ability to shape matches at just 18 is phenomenal.”
Beyond his technical skill, Rashford highlighted Yamal’s personality. “Off the pitch, he’s just a normal 18-year-old—always laughing, joking, and bringing energy to the group. But when the game starts, his presence is undeniable. To have that kind of influence so consistently at such a young age is incredible. Lamine has a long career ahead, and I hope he continues to improve.”
When discussing the future of the Ballon d’Or, Rashford confidently predicted Yamal’s eventual triumph. “If he doesn’t win it this year, it’s only a matter of time. He’s a top talent with incredible maturity for his age. Watching him think and play is exciting. He’s far beyond his years, and playing alongside him is a privilege.”
Rashford also spoke about other young players breaking through. “Take Dro, for instance. You never know until they play in competitive matches, but from what I see in training, he’s ready. Not just him, but several young players have the potential to contribute immediately.”
Reflecting on team achievements, Rashford praised the squad’s ambition. “Winning the Champions League? Absolutely. But it’s not just that—it’s about building on last season, improving, and consistently performing. That mindset is what sets top teams apart.”
He also praised Pedri for his intelligence on the field. “If you didn’t know his age, you’d think he’s 28 or 29. His understanding of the game and ability to control tempo makes life easier for the forwards. That maturity is impressive.”
Finally, Rashford emphasized the culture of talent development at La Masia. “When you look at the technique and energy of these young players, it’s obvious they can compete at the highest level. La Masia has consistently produced elite talent, and these players are proof of that.”
