Liverpool are reportedly in advanced discussions to bring one of the Bundesliga’s top defenders to Anfield, with Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck emerging as a prime target for the Reds.
Schlotterbeck’s representatives have been exploring potential moves for the German international ahead of the summer 2026 transfer window, and Liverpool are confirmed to be among the clubs expressing genuine interest. While the centre-back remains under contract at Dortmund until 2027, he has so far declined to commit to a new deal, keeping his future open.
Although a contract extension at Signal Iduna Park is not entirely off the table, Schlotterbeck is keen to evaluate his options abroad. Several European giants, including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, have been linked with the 25-year-old defender. However, Premier League interest is also significant, with Liverpool reportedly maintaining contact over the past year.
As the Reds approach 2026, central defence remains a priority area for strengthening. Sources indicate that Liverpool could be looking to bring in two new centre-backs across the next two transfer windows, and Schlotterbeck fits the profile perfectly. Unlike fellow targets Marc Guehi and Dayot Upamecano, who may be available on free transfers, securing Schlotterbeck would likely require a substantial outlay, potentially around £50 million, should Dortmund agree to a sale.
