Everyone is talking about the price tag.
Very few are talking about the reality of the modern striker market. And that’s where Barcelona need to be extremely careful. 👀
I completely understand why Barcelona would refuse to get dragged into another reckless bidding war with Real Madrid, PSG or any other financially powerful club.
Barcelona have already paid a heavy price for years of financial mismanagement. The club cannot afford to repeat those mistakes simply because a superstar becomes available.
But there is another side to this argument.
Elite strikers who genuinely fit Barcelona’s footballing identity are becoming incredibly difficult to find.
And Julián Álvarez ticks almost every box. 🇦🇷🔥
He is still young, already proven at the highest level, tactically intelligent, technically excellent, aggressive without the ball and capable of operating in a possession-heavy system.
Most importantly, he doesn’t simply score goals. He contributes to the entire attacking structure.
Beyond players such as Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland, who would be extremely difficult or unrealistic targets, the number of genuinely world-class forwards capable of immediately elevating Barcelona is very limited.
That’s why some of the alternative suggestions being discussed deserve serious scrutiny.
Kroupi? Spending close to €100 million on a player who still has so much to prove would represent a huge gamble.
Endrick? Forget it.
Real Madrid are not going to sell him to Barcelona, especially given the rivalry between the two clubs and the long-standing understanding surrounding their key players.
So if Barcelona genuinely believe Álvarez is the striker capable of leading their attack for the next decade, then perhaps they should stop trying to win the negotiation at the cheapest possible price.
Instead, they should make Atlético Madrid an offer that is extremely difficult to refuse. 💰👀
A package approaching €150 million in guaranteed money, supplemented by performance-related bonuses for achievements such as Champions League success or individual honours, could completely change the conversation.
A future sell-on percentage could also make the proposal more attractive to Atlético while protecting Barcelona from paying the entire potential value upfront.
But we also need to understand Atlético Madrid’s perspective.
They reportedly invested more than €90 million to sign Álvarez, and the club still has financial commitments attached to that transfer.
They are also under no obligation to sell.
Álvarez isn’t some expendable squad player. He is arguably the most valuable attacking asset at the club and a central part of Atlético’s ambitions.
So expecting Atlético to simply hand Barcelona their star striker for a bargain price is unrealistic. 🔴⚪
Barcelona have to remain financially responsible.
But financial discipline doesn’t necessarily mean refusing every major investment.
Sometimes, exceptional players require exceptional investments.
The real question isn’t simply:
💰 “How much does Julián Álvarez cost?”
The bigger question is:
🧠 “How much would Barcelona regret not signing him if he becomes the superstar everyone expects him to be?”
Barcelona must protect their financial future.
But they also need to recognize when a rare opportunity presents itself.

My verdict? If Barcelona genuinely believe Álvarez is their long-term No. 9, they should go all in—but only with a financially structured deal that protects the club from another reckless transfer gamble.
