Virgil van Dijk has delivered a powerful message about Cody Gakpo after the Dutch forward produced another outstanding performance to inspire Liverpool’s first Premier League victory of the season. 🇳🇱🔴
Gakpo was at the heart of Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town at Portman Road, providing two assists for Alexander Isak, who sensationally scored twice inside the opening nine minutes.
And while Isak grabbed the headlines with his early brace, Gakpo quietly put on a masterclass of his own. His creativity, movement and link-up play caused Ipswich all sorts of problems, with the Dutchman proving once again why Liverpool were determined to keep him at Anfield. 🔥🎯
The performance comes after a summer filled with speculation surrounding Gakpo’s future, including reported interest from Manchester City. Liverpool ultimately kept hold of the forward, and Van Dijk made it clear just how pleased he is that his compatriot remains on Merseyside.
“Nobody knows what he has been through,” Van Dijk said, stressing that people on the outside cannot fully understand everything Gakpo has dealt with away from the football pitch.
Yet despite everything, Gakpo continues to turn up and deliver when Liverpool need him most. ❤️🔥
“He is here with us, and he wants to be important for us,” Van Dijk added, pointing to Gakpo’s performances over the opening matches of the campaign.
And the numbers are already talking. Gakpo has started the season in electric form, contributing one goal and three assists, with two of those assists arriving in spectacular fashion against Ipswich.
There is also growing excitement around the chemistry between Gakpo and Isak. The Swedish striker finished off both of the Dutchman’s deliveries against Ipswich, and their understanding in the final third is beginning to look seriously dangerous. 👀🔥
Liverpool supporters will certainly be hoping this is only the beginning.
Van Dijk was also delighted that Gakpo stayed, making it clear that his importance extends beyond just the current campaign.
“I’m glad he stayed,” the captain said, effectively sending a message to everyone who was hoping Liverpool might lose one of their key attacking weapons. 😮💨🔴
And now the question is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore…
What if Liverpool’s decision to keep Gakpo turns out to be one of the biggest decisions of their season? 👀🏆
With Gakpo creating, Isak scoring and Van Dijk leading from the back, Liverpool suddenly have plenty for their rivals to worry about. The Reds have their first league win, Iraola has his first Premier League victory, and the Gakpo-Isak connection is already cooking. 🍳🔥
Liverpool fans wanted signs of life.
They just got one. And it came with two Gakpo assists and two Isak goals. 😍🔴
