Barcelona’s breathtaking 5-0 demolition of Valencia has earned praise from one of Manchester United’s greatest-ever players, with Wayne Rooney reportedly admitting that the way Hansi Flick’s side play has left him envious.
The Blaugrana produced another statement performance at Mestalla, maintaining their perfect start to the LaLiga campaign with four wins from four matches. Lamine Yamal scored twice, while Fermín López, Raphinha and Pedri also found the net as Barcelona completely overwhelmed Valencia.
Barcelona’s attacking football has been particularly frightening.
The Catalan giants have now scored 17 goals in their opening four league matches, producing their best goalscoring start since Flick took charge. Their attacking trio has been heavily involved, while players from midfield are also consistently arriving in dangerous areas and contributing goals.
That collective threat appears to be what impressed Rooney most.
The former Manchester United striker reportedly praised Barcelona’s football and described them as a genuine attacking role model, while expressing his desire to see his former club play with a similar identity.
It is easy to understand why.
Barcelona are not relying on one superstar to carry the attack. Raphinha has already established himself as one of the league’s leading scorers, Lamine is producing spectacular numbers, Fermín has become an increasingly important attacking weapon, and Pedri is adding goals from midfield.
Fermín was particularly outstanding against Valencia, scoring once and creating two more goals, while Lamine continued his sensational form with another brace.
And behind it all is Hansi Flick.
The German manager has created a Barcelona side that combines relentless attacking movement with control and intensity. Even Flick himself highlighted the importance of controlling matches, creating spaces and finishing chances after the Valencia victory.
The scary part for Barcelona’s rivals is that this team still looks capable of getting better.
Four matches. Four wins. Seventeen goals.
Rooney may be jealous, but Barcelona supporters will simply be enjoying the show.
Hansi Flick has this Barça firing on all cylinders.
