Liverpool supporters were given a huge scare during the Champions League clash with Atlético Madrid when Bradley Barcola suddenly went down holding his left calf. 😰🚨
The French winger had to receive treatment before being withdrawn around the hour mark, immediately raising fears that Liverpool could have lost their expensive new attacking weapon to a serious injury. 😳
But thankfully, there is no major injury! 🙏🔥
Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola confirmed after the 2-1 comeback victory that Barcola was suffering from cramp rather than an injury. The manager explained that the club is still carefully building the winger’s physical condition because he had not played any pre-season minutes with Paris Saint-Germain before arriving at Anfield.
That is a massive relief for the Reds. ❤️🔥
Barcola was making his first Liverpool start against Atlético and showed flashes of exactly why the club invested heavily in bringing him to Anfield. His pace, movement and ability to attack space immediately gave Liverpool another dangerous dimension. ⚡🔥
The winger even had a golden opportunity to put Liverpool ahead in the second half after being released by Florian Wirtz, but his finish went narrowly wide. 😱⚽
Moments later, however, the worrying scene arrived. Barcola pulled up, grabbed his calf and signalled that he could not continue. The stadium went quiet as Liverpool supporters feared the worst. 😰
Fortunately, Barcola was able to walk off the pitch and Iraola quickly calmed the situation.
“It is just cramp, there is no injury,” the Liverpool boss confirmed.
And there was more positive news: Milos Kerkez also went off with cramp, rather than an injury, according to Iraola. The manager viewed both situations as signs of fatigue after the players gave everything on the pitch.
The timing is important because Liverpool are facing a demanding schedule, with another Premier League fixture coming quickly after the Champions League opener. Iraola will therefore have to manage Barcola carefully rather than immediately pushing him towards another full 90 minutes. 👀⏳
Barcola’s lack of pre-season football is clearly something Liverpool are monitoring closely. The winger only recently arrived from PSG and had limited competitive minutes before making his Liverpool debut. Iraola has already acknowledged that the club is still figuring out how many minutes Barcola can safely handle.
Still, the message from Anfield is simple:
🚨 NO SERIOUS BARCOLA INJURY!
💪 JUST CRAMP!
⚡ THE SPEEDSTER IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE!
🔴 LIVERPOOL FANS CAN BREATHE AGAIN!
And after Liverpool’s dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Atlético Madrid, the Reds have even more reason to be smiling. Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister completed the comeback after Marcos Llorente had given Atlético the lead, giving Iraola a winning start to his Champions League campaign. 🏆🔥
Barcola may not have found the net on his first European start for Liverpool, but his explosive qualities were already visible. With more fitness, more minutes and greater understanding with Wirtz, Isak, Gakpo and the rest of Liverpool’s attacking unit, the Frenchman could become a serious problem for defenders across England and Europe. 😈⚡
Liverpool fans wanted good news… and they got it. Barcola’s scare was only cramp. ❤️🔥🔴
