Florian Wirtz’s work rate has never been in doubt. The German midfielder is constantly pressing, making runs, dropping deep, linking play and trying to help Liverpool control matches. 💪⚽
But now comes the big question… is Wirtz doing TOO much? 👀
The £116m arrival from Bayer Leverkusen has been putting in serious defensive work, and his willingness to press has been one of the standout parts of his adaptation to English football. Liverpool have clearly benefited from his intensity and intelligence off the ball. 🔥
However, there may be a hidden cost. 😬
Every sprint, every press and every recovery run takes something away from the energy Wirtz needs when Liverpool reach the final third. And that is where supporters desperately want to see the German produce his biggest moments. 🎯✨
Wirtz’s greatest weapon is his creativity. Give him space around the box and he can unlock a defence with one touch, one pass or one clever movement. 🪄🇩🇪 But if he has already emptied the tank chasing opponents around the pitch, his final decision can lose that extra bit of sharpness.
Liverpool’s recent performances have only intensified the discussion. After the Champions League victory over Atlético Madrid, the Reds were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Fulham, with the team struggling for energy and attacking sharpness after a demanding schedule.
And Iraola himself has defended Wirtz’s contribution beyond the goals and assists, highlighting just how much work the midfielder does for the team. Reports have pointed to Wirtz covering huge distances and producing an enormous amount of pressure in the final third. 😮💨📊
So perhaps the answer isn’t to ask Wirtz to work harder…
Perhaps Liverpool need to make sure he has enough energy left to be Wirtz. 👀🔥
The creativity. The dribbling. The killer passes. The late runs. The moments of pure brilliance. ✨
Liverpool didn’t spend a club-record fee to turn one of Europe’s most exciting No.10s into nothing more than a pressing machine.
They need the work rate… but they also need the MAGIC. 🪄❤️🔥
