Barcelona’s financial situation could create another massive transfer opportunity for Liverpool, with Ronald Araujo’s future reportedly becoming a major talking point ahead of the January transfer window.
The Uruguayan defender joined Liverpool from Barcelona on a season-long loan in August 2026, with an option to make the transfer permanent for approximately €55 million (£47 million).
However, according to reports from TEAMtalk, Barcelona have approached Liverpool about bringing the permanent transfer forward to January as they look to generate funds for their own defensive recruitment.
Liverpool are understood to be satisfied with Araujo’s performances and would be open to keeping him beyond his loan spell. The 27-year-old has impressed with his physical strength, defensive aggression, recovery pace and ability to operate both at right-back and centre-back.
Even more interestingly, Liverpool reportedly want to negotiate a reduced transfer fee, with figures between £40 million and £45 million being considered a more attractive deal.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are looking to strengthen their own defence, meaning Araujo’s departure could help finance their next recruitment plans.
For Andoni Iraola, securing Araujo permanently would provide Liverpool with an experienced defender capable of strengthening multiple positions for years to come.
