Barcelona have reportedly received another disappointing injury update, with teenage defender Xavi Espart expected to spend longer recovering than several of the club’s other injured players.
The 19-year-old is currently recovering from an ankle syndesmosis injury, a problem that can be particularly challenging because of the time and rehabilitation required before a player can safely return to competitive football.
According to Hansi Flick, Espart could be available around Barcelona’s first match of 2027, meaning the youngster may have to wait several more weeks before returning to action.
This is an unfortunate setback for a player who had been showing encouraging signs and making progress within Barcelona’s first-team setup.
Espart’s versatility, technical ability and confidence on the ball make him an exciting prospect for the Catalan giants. His performances had given supporters reasons to be optimistic about his development.
However, Barcelona will not want to rush his recovery. Returning too early from this type of ankle injury could risk further complications, so the medical staff will need to ensure he is fully fit before allowing him back into competitive action.
For Hansi Flick, another defensive absence is certainly not ideal, especially with Barcelona needing sufficient depth to navigate a demanding season.
Everyone at the club will be hoping Espart completes his rehabilitation successfully and returns stronger in 2027.
🙏 Speedy recovery, Xavi Espart! Barcelona need you back! ❤️💙
