Michael Carrick has reportedly responded to the growing criticism surrounding his management at Manchester United, making it clear that he believes the club’s problems go far beyond his tactical decisions.
With pressure continuing to build following a series of disappointing performances, the United manager allegedly feels that too much responsibility is being placed on his shoulders while certain players escape criticism for their individual displays.
Carrick reportedly believes that some members of the squad have failed to demonstrate the consistency, commitment and fighting spirit required to represent Manchester United.
In an alleged response to his critics, Carrick said:
“The fans always blame me and say my tactics aren’t working, but they never look at how badly some of these players are performing. They forget what I am trying to build here.
“I am not the only problem. Some players need to take responsibility for their performances. You cannot expect me to perform miracles when certain individuals are not giving everything for this club.”
The reported comments suggest that Carrick is becoming increasingly frustrated with the situation at Old Trafford and believes his players must also accept responsibility for the club’s struggles.
However, his position remains under scrutiny, with supporters expecting improvements both tactically and in terms of results.
One thing is certain: Manchester United cannot afford to continue allowing the situation to deteriorate. The manager and players must find a way to get the club moving in the right direction again.
