Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has reportedly delivered a furious assessment of one senior United player following the disappointing defeat against Chelsea at Old Trafford, questioning his commitment, work rate and overall contribution to the team.
Scholes is said to be particularly frustrated with the player’s lack of urgency when the opposition has possession, suggesting that he repeatedly allows opponents to move past him without putting up enough resistance.
According to the reported comments, the former United midfielder questioned how someone receiving such an important role in the squad could contribute so little defensively, especially when the team desperately needs every player to fight for the badge.
The criticism reportedly focused on several worrying aspects of the player’s performance, including his failure to track runners, reluctance to engage in physical duels, lack of defensive intensity and questionable decision-making under pressure.
For Scholes, wearing the Manchester United shirt should come with enormous responsibility. Every player must be prepared to work, compete, defend and sacrifice themselves for the team, regardless of their reputation, salary or position.
And with pressure continuing to build around Michael Carrick following another disappointing result, performances from senior players are inevitably coming under greater scrutiny.
Manchester United cannot afford passengers when the team is fighting to rediscover its identity and consistency. The standards at Old Trafford must be higher!
But who exactly deserves to be held accountable for this performance? 👀🔴
