Barcelona are actively exploring defensive reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window, with seven centre-backs reportedly on their radar as Hansi Flick looks to strengthen his defensive options for the second half of the season.
According to Sport, the Catalan giants have drawn up a shortlist featuring several defenders from Europe’s biggest clubs:
- Fikayo Tomori – AC Milan 🇬🇧
- Vitor Reis – Manchester City 🇧🇷
- Piero Hincapié – Arsenal 🇪🇨
- Lisandro Martínez – Manchester United 🇦🇷
- Lucas Beraldo – PSG 🇧🇷
- Jorrel Hato – Chelsea 🇳🇱
- Jonathan Tah – Bayern Munich 🇩🇪
The shortlist contains different defensive profiles, from experienced centre-backs capable of providing immediate stability to younger players who could become important parts of Barcelona’s long-term project.
However, identifying targets is only one part of the challenge. Barcelona’s financial situation remains a major obstacle.
The club reportedly has only around €3–4 million in available salary-cap space, meaning Deco cannot simply spend big to bring in a high-profile defender. Barcelona would likely need to negotiate a loan, secure a bargain deal or create additional financial room through player departures. Tribuna +1
Interestingly, not all seven options are equally realistic. Tomori’s contract situation could create an opportunity, Vitor Reis could be available on loan, while Hincapié’s versatility makes him an attractive profile. Lisandro Martínez also offers the experience and ball-playing ability Flick appreciates.
Barcelona are also making it clear that they will not sign a defender simply to satisfy the demands of the January market. The priority is finding someone who genuinely improves the squad and fits Flick’s tactical system.
DECО HAS A BIG DECISION TO MAKE! 👀
